Web Based Training (WBT)
The provision of an eLearning solution (web-based training) in the eMR project has been identified as an important component in the successful delivery of core application education for clinical staff across 7 Area Health Services (AHS) in NSW. Six WBT modules have been developed:
- FirstNet (Emergency Department System)
- Orders
- PowerChart (Results)
- Scheduling
- SurgiNet (Operating Theatre System).
It is recognised that staff have varying levels of expertise and comfort using computers, and providing the option to use eLearning allows staff to learn at an appropriate individual pace as lessons are able to be repeated time and time again.
A Windows Skills module is also available for staff who are less familiar using computers. They will be encouraged to use this module as it includes Mouse skills, using Menus and Toolbars, and the opportunity to work with Windows before moving on to do the application training.
The five application modules contain lessons with simulations that may be targeted to a specific audience (e.g. FirstNet training for Emergency Department staff) or intended for all relevant staff (e.g. How to login).
Delivering training via the web means that you can access the same training content virtually anywhere. The WBTs will be combined with instructor-led, classroom-based, small-group training for every clinician who will be expected to use the eMR. All of the above training modalities will be supported by quick reference guides in clinical areas.
The application training modules have been designed to reflect the State Baseline Build of the eMR and, as such, do not reflect the particular individual differences in the business processes or application builds in the AHSs.
The eMR WBT modules can be accessed via the eMR Intranet and the NSW Health Online Learning site.
