What's in it for me?

When fully utilised, the eMR has some key features that will enable benefits to be achieved:

Integrated patient view:

Integrated View of Patient: The eMR will be a single point of data capture for orders and results, providing a standardised and comprehensive picture regarding the patient journey, incorporating both Orders and Results and can be accessed from any facility in the Area.

Scheduling: The eMR also provides a standardised and comprehensive picture regarding availability of fixed hospital resources such as Operating Theatre, Catheter Lab, ICU and outpatient visits.

Decision Support:

Record Checking Functionality: when placing an order in the eMR system, it will automatically cross-check the patient’s order history to ensure that no duplicate orders have been placed.

Exception Alerts: in addition to providing integrated visibility of test results, the system will automatically flag when the results are outside of pre-determined ranges.

Standardised Process:

Through common input screens developed through the state baseline build process, the eMR will support standardisation of workflow, a common understanding and a common language (based on agreed clinical standards and protocols).

Order Management:

The eMR supports best practice with the use of order sets and clinical protocol. It also ensures different levels of clinician sign-off required to raise orders for certain procedures.

Discharge Referrals:

The eMR is able to produce Discharge Referrals comprising the data captured during the patient journey – these can then be submitted to primary care providers for on-going patient care.

Information and reporting:

The eMR will facilitate the collection of clinical information across different entities in the system facilities, Areas, protocols or procedures. This will in turn promote shared learning and continuous improvement of all aspects of the patient journey.

Systems Integration:

The eMR will receive data from systems it is integrated with – Patient Administration System, Pathology, Medical Imaging, etc.
